A Divisive Combination
A new design for Swizzels Squashies proposes a combination of two of the brand’s most established sweets: Parma Violets and Fizzers. The mockup, which appeared online recently, packages the two distinct flavours into a single bag, presented under a ‘Real Mix Innovation Editions’ banner.
This would be a significant departure for the Squashies format. Parma Violets are famously divisive. Their strong, floral taste has a loyal following but is disliked by many. Fizzers are a more straightforward, universally popular fizzy tablet sweet. Combining them in a soft, foam-gum texture represents a genuinely new direction, moving away from the fruit and cream flavours that define the current range.
The Squashies Line-up
The Squashies range first launched in 2012, reimagining classic Swizzels sweets like Drumstick lollies and Double Lollies into a softer, chewier format. It was an immediate success and has since expanded into a core part of the company’s offering.
The current UK range is built around familiar, accessible profiles. The Original flavour contains the classic raspberry and milk from Drumsticks. Other variants include Bubblegum, Ice Cream, Splits Lollies, Strawberry Cream, and the tangier Sour Cherry Apple. Each of these builds on a fruit, cream, or sour base. None of them use the floral or chalky-sherbet notes found in Parma Violets and Fizzers. This proposed mix would be the first of its kind.
Two Swizzels Originals
Parma Violets have been produced by Swizzels in Derbyshire since 1946. Their unique violet flavour has made them an iconic, if controversial, British sweet for decades. Fizzers are even older, originally launched as a tablet version of Rainbow Drops powder in the 1930s before being rebranded.
Both have remained largely unchanged in format, existing as small, hard-pressed tablets. While they frequently appear alongside each other in variety bags like Swizzels’ Sweet Shop Favourites, they have never been formally combined into a single product or translated into the Squashies texture. The mockup is the first time the two have been envisioned together in this way.
What the real range looks like
The current Swizzels Squashies range includes Original, Bubblegum, Ice Cream, Splits Lollies, Strawberry Cream, and Sour Cherry Apple. A Parma Violets and Fizzers Mix would be the first in the UK line-up to feature a floral flavour or one based on the brand’s classic tablet-style sweets.
