An Unexpected Brand Crossover
Every office birthday and children’s party is familiar with the M&S Colin the Caterpillar cake. It’s a national institution. So is the Lindt Lindor truffle, albeit one occupying a slightly different space in the market. A new mockup brings the two together in a single product: a Colin the Caterpillar cake infused with the flavour of Lindt’s Pistachio truffles.
The pack design shows a classic Colin box, but co-branded with the distinctive Lindt script logo. The cake inside is topped not with the usual chocolate buttons but with whole, green-wrapped Lindor Pistachio truffles. It’s a collision of a dependable party centrepiece with a premium, after-dinner chocolate, taking Colin somewhere he has never been before.
The Colin the Caterpillar Universe
Colin is much more than just the original log cake. The character has become a sprawling M&S sub-brand, extending deep into the confectionery aisle. The core idea has been spun out into numerous formats, demonstrating the brand’s elasticity. There are M&S Colin the Caterpillar Softies, Speckles, and a whole collection of gummy sweets including Cola Gums, Fruit Gums, and Cherry Gums.
The range also plays with flavour profiles. Beyond the standard sweet offering, there are sour variants like Colin the Caterpillar Sourtastic, Sour Stomps, and Fruit Sours. For parties, the brand offers Mini Colin the Caterpillar Cakes, Party Cups, and a box called Party Time. What none of these products do, however, is partner with another major confectioner. The Lindor concept is the first to propose a direct, co-branded flavour crossover, placing it outside the established pattern of M&S’s own variations.
What the real range looks like
The genuine Colin the Caterpillar range is extensive, including the original M&S Cake, Softies, Speckles, Mini Cakes, and a wide variety of gummy sweets like Cola Gums, Fruit Gums and Sour Stomps. A crossover with a premium brand like Lindt would be a first for Colin, whose existing variants are all M&S’s own creations.

- The concept is for a cake based on the Lindt Lindor Pistachio truffle. This is one of Lindt’s popular flavours for its cream-filled chocolate spheres.
- Has M&S collaborated with other chocolate brands for Colin before?
- No. While the Colin the Caterpillar range includes many different formats and flavours, from sour sweets to mini cakes, they have all been developed in-house by M&S. A collaboration with a brand like Lindt would be a new strategy.
- Is the Lindt Colin the Caterpillar cake real?
- No. This is a Snackfish — a mockup created by UK Snack Attack — and it is not sold anywhere.
