A Filled Centre for a Solid Classic
A new design for a Cadbury product suggests a textural update to one of its simplest formats. The mockup shows a standard purple share pouch of Dairy Milk Buttons, but with one major difference: a filling. The product is named ‘Gooey Vanilla Fudge Filled’, and a graphic on the pack shows a button split in half, revealing a pale, liquid-like centre.
The standard Button is a solid disc of chocolate. Its entire appeal is its simplicity and fast-melting shape. Introducing a filling would be the most significant change to the product in its history, moving it into the same category as products like Dairy Milk Caramel or Creme Egg.
A Different Kind of Fudge
Cadbury’s association with fudge is long-standing, but this concept takes the flavour in a new direction. The current UK range already includes products like Cadbury Fudge Minis and Cadbury Fudge Cake Bars, both of which use the classic, firm, chocolate-flavoured fudge that has been a brand staple for decades.
This mockup proposes two changes. Firstly, the flavour is vanilla, not chocolate. Secondly, the texture is explicitly ‘gooey’, a far cry from the solid chew of a traditional Fudge bar. It moves the idea of ‘fudge’ from a solid ingredient to a sauce-like filling, which is a new interpretation for the brand’s confectionery line.
Format Experiments
While filled Buttons would be new, experimenting with formats is central to the modern Cadbury portfolio. The brand’s presence extends far beyond the confectionery aisle into cakes, biscuits, and frozen desserts. This is a strategy that puts the familiar Dairy Milk branding onto a huge variety of products.
The current range demonstrates this breadth. It includes baked goods like Cadbury Fudge Cake Bars and the Cadbury Honey Comb Roll, chilled desserts like Cadbury Pots of Joy, and ice creams such as the Cadbury Boost and Cadbury Flake tubs. A filled version of Buttons would be another example of this kind of portfolio expansion, applying a new format idea to an existing, popular product.
What the real range looks like
The genuine Cadbury range is extensive, covering cakes like the Cadbury Honey Comb Roll and Fudge Cake Bars, as well as ice creams and desserts. This fictional ‘Gooey Vanilla Fudge Filled’ edition would be a rare example of a significant format innovation within the core Buttons confectionery line itself.
