Two Brands, One Biscuit
Brand crossovers are now a permanent fixture of the UK snack market. This latest concept combines two of the biggest names on the shelf: McVitie’s and Galaxy. The idea is simple. It takes the standard format of a McVitie’s Milk Chocolate Digestive and replaces the solid chocolate topping with one based on Galaxy Caramel.
The mockup shows the classic Digestive tube pack, recoloured in the familiar purple and caramel tones of the Mars-owned brand. It’s a straightforward proposition. It merges a foundational British biscuit with a best-selling chocolate bar. There is very little to explain.
The McVitie’s Portfolio
McVitie’s has a surprisingly broad range beyond its core lines. The company produces everything from Fig Rolls and Fruit Shortcake to Hobnobs Oaty Flapjacks. The Digestive itself is no stranger to variation. Alongside the standard milk chocolate version, McVitie’s currently sells White Chocolate Digestives and even a Jaffa Digestives variant.
The brand is also familiar with crossovers. Its current catalogue includes McVitie’s Milky Way Cake Bars, another partnership with Mars Wrigley. This sets a clear precedent. The idea of borrowing a flavour from another major confectionery brand is not a new one for the biscuit maker. This concept would see that logic applied to its flagship biscuit, rather than a cake bar.
A Different Kind of Chocolate
What sets this idea apart from previous Digestive variants is the filling. Galaxy Caramel is not a solid block of chocolate; its main feature is the soft caramel centre. A Digestive topped with this would introduce a new texture to the line. It would be the first mainstream Digestive to feature a soft, flowing component as part of its topping.
The existing range sticks to solid chocolate. You have milk, white, and the dark chocolate on the Jaffa variant. The Gold Digestive Biscuits have a caramel flavour, but it’s a solid coating. A Galaxy version would require a completely different production process, moving beyond a simple enrobing of the biscuit to depositing a filled chocolate layer on top. It would be a significant step.
What the real range looks like
The real McVitie’s range is extensive, including McVitie’s White Digestives Biscuits, McVitie’s Jaffa Digestives, and even a crossover with McVitie’s Milky Way Cake Bars. A Galaxy Caramel version would fit into this established pattern of brand partnerships and flavour variations on the core biscuit.
