A Cadbury Wispa Gold Crunchie Bar Appears Online

A Merger of Two Cadbury Textures

This design proposes a straightforward combination of two of Cadbury’s most distinct single-bar brands. The concept takes the format of a Wispa Gold—aerated milk chocolate with a soft caramel layer—and introduces honeycomb pieces from a Crunchie bar as an inclusion.

The two products have very different histories. Crunchie has been a fixture since its launch by J. S. Fry & Sons in 1929, defined by its golden honeycomb (or cinder toffee) centre. Wispa Gold is a more modern proposition. It first appeared in 1995 as a caramel-filled version of the bubbly Wispa, was discontinued in 2003, and then brought back permanently in 2011 after a huge public campaign. One bar is defined by a brittle snap, the other by a soft bite.

The Current Cadbury Crossover Strategy

Cadbury has a long history of creating hybrid bars, but they almost always use Cadbury Dairy Milk as the base product. We have seen Dairy Milk with Oreo, Daim, and indeed a Dairy Milk Crunchie variant, which mixes honeycomb pieces into the solid milk chocolate slab.

This new idea is unusual because it proposes a crossover between two standalone sub-brands, leaving the core Dairy Milk range out of the equation entirely. It would be a significant departure for Wispa, a brand that has seen few flavour variations beyond the addition of caramel. The mockup’s packaging reflects this, merging the deep purple and script of Wispa with the blocky red Crunchie logo and its familiar shattered gold pattern.

What the real range looks like

The current Crunchie brand extends far beyond the original bar. The range includes Cadbury Crunchie Ice Cream Cones, Cadbury Crunchie Blast Ice Cream, Cadbury Crunchie Rocks Chocolate Bags, and Cadbury Crunchie Mini Ice Cream Sticks. Within chocolate, there is also the Cadbury Dairy Milk Crunchie Chocolate Bar. A Wispa Gold Crunchie would be the brand’s second major bar-format crossover, but the first to use another sub-brand as its base.
