An Internal Crossover
Swizzels has a long history of remixing its own back catalogue. The Squashies range is the prime example, taking the hard-boiled or chalky texture of a classic sweet and reimagining it as a soft, foamy gum. This new concept stays firmly within the family, proposing a crossover with another Swizzels mainstay: Refreshers.
The mockup, shared with the caption “Squashies Fizzy Refreshers Mix, how good would these be?”, depicts the familiar purple Squashies bag, co-branded with the distinctive Refreshers logo. Inside would be a mix of the two iconic Refreshers flavours, lemon and raspberry. It’s a logical step. The brand has already done it many times. This would just be the next one.
The Squashies Range
The current Squashies lineup is broad, demonstrating just how flexible the format is. The original version combined the flavours of two other Swizzels classics, the milk-and-raspberry Drumstick lolly and the fruity Double Lolly. From there, the range expanded significantly to include brand crossovers and new flavour ideas.
The current offering includes Bubblegum, Ice Cream, Cherry Cola, Strawberry Cream, and a Sour Cherry Apple variant. More directly, the range features Squashies versions of Love Hearts and Splits Lollies, proving the internal crossover model works. A Refreshers edition would be the first to attempt to translate a ‘fizzy’ or sherbet-based sweet into the Squashies format. That is the central proposition here. It’s a texture challenge as much as a flavour one.
Refreshers Reimagined
The original Refreshers chew bar, with its hidden sherbet centre, has been a staple for decades. That core experience—a tangy, fizzy burst inside a fruit chew—has since been translated into other products, including rolls of hard-panned sweets and smaller chews. The flavour profile is always the same. Lemon and raspberry.
Bringing that to Squashies would mean capturing the fizziness without the hard shell or dense chew. This concept places the idea within the ‘Real Mix Innovation Editions’ sub-brand, suggesting it’s seen as a more experimental step. It asks how you get sherbet powder into a foam sweet without it just dissolving. It’s a solid concept for a product that feels like it should already exist on a shelf somewhere.
What the real range looks like
The real Swizzels Squashies range includes Original (Drumstick & Double Lolly), Bubblegum, Ice Cream, Love Hearts, Cherry Cola, Splits Lollies, Strawberry Cream, and Sour Cherry Apple. A Fizzy Refreshers Mix would be the first to adapt a sherbet-based sweet into the foamy format.
