Strawberries and cream is a foundational flavour in British sweets and desserts. It’s a pairing that feels instantly familiar. But it would be entirely new territory for the Flake, a product defined more by its texture than its flavour profile for over a century.
A Manufacturing Puzzle
Applying a new flavour to a Flake isn’t as simple as adding an ingredient to a Dairy Milk vat. The bar’s entire identity is tied to its manufacturing process, which Cadbury has always kept under wraps.
What is known is that the bar is made from flowing ribbons of milk chocolate folded into a delicate, crumbly texture. The chocolate isn’t tempered in the same way as a solid bar, which gives it its characteristic flakiness and makes it notoriously difficult to melt. This quality makes it ideal for sticking in ice cream but a challenge for bakers.
