A Classic Pick ‘n’ Mix Duo
The pick ‘n’ mix bag has two undisputed rulers: the foam banana and the foam shrimp. They are fundamental building blocks of the British sweet experience. A new design concept brings them together in a single pack of Swizzels Squashies.
The mockup shows a standard purple Squashies bag, clearly branded with the proposed new flavour. It even carries a banner for a “Real Mix Innovation Edition” range, suggesting this could be the first of many such combinations. The image depicts exactly what it promises. Soft yellow banana shapes sit alongside the familiar curved pink shrimps. It’s a simple concept. It’s a powerful one.
The Squashies Strategy
Since launching in 2012, the Squashies range has become a huge part of the Swizzels portfolio. The core idea was straightforward: take the company’s own classic hard sweets and reimagine them as soft, foamy gums. The original variety pack contains squashy versions of Drumstick Lollies, Refreshers, Double Lollies and Love Hearts. It was a massive commercial success.
Subsequent launches have mostly followed this internal logic. They take an existing Swizzels property and adapt it. This Foam Bananas & Shrimps concept would be a significant departure. Neither sweet is a Swizzels creation. They are generic, universally-owned sweet shop staples. Bringing them into the Squashies format would mark a new strategy for the brand, looking outside its own catalogue for inspiration for the first time.
What the real range looks like
The current Swizzels Squashies range includes Original, Bubblegum, Ice Cream, Splits Lollies, Strawberry Cream, and Sour Cherry Apple. A Foam Bananas & Shrimps edition would be the first in the line to combine two classic sweets that aren’t from Swizzels’ own back catalogue, placing it in a new category of its own.
