Percy Pig Ruby Chocolate Spread Mockup Surfaces Online

A New Spread for the Percy Universe

The universe of Percy Pig products is in a state of near-constant expansion, but the ambient aisle has remained relatively untouched. A new mockup changes that. It proposes a glass jar of Percy Pig spread, intended for crumpets, toast, or whatever else you might cover in a fruit-flavoured chocolate spread.

The design specifies a ‘Ruby Chocolate Berry Smash’ flavour, a combination of raspberry and milk chocolate. This is a logical step. The core Percy flavour profile has always been a mix of raspberry, strawberry, cherry and grape. Adding chocolate, particularly the berry-adjacent notes of ruby chocolate, feels like a plausible move for the M&S mascot.

The M&S Format Lab

While a spread might be new territory for Percy, innovative formats are not new for his parent brand. M&S currently uses a ‘Flip Dip’ format in its chilled savoury range. These products, which include a Red Pepper & Cream Cheese Dip and a Basil Dip with Pesto Drizzle, keep a wet topping separate from the main dip until the consumer flips it over at home.

A similar principle is often applied to yoghurts, but rarely to shelf-stable spreads. Applying this kind of thinking to a sweet product would be a genuine category jump. It is not hard to imagine a chocolate spread with a separate compartment for a fruit coulis or a sauce. It’s a fresh idea.

The Percy Precedent

Marks & Spencer has, of course, sold Percy in a jar before. The squeezable Percy Pig Dessert Sauce was a fixture of the ice cream aisle for some time, designed as a topping for sundaes. That product was a simple pink sauce, replicating the classic sweet’s flavour.

This concept is more complex. The ‘Ruby Chocolate’ element brings in a fourth-wave chocolate variety that has only been on the market for a few years. It moves Percy away from being a simple sweet flavour and towards a slightly more developed confectionery profile. The combination of milk chocolate, ruby chocolate, and raspberry is a familiar one in high-end chocolate bars, but it’s new for Percy.

What the real range looks like

The current M&S range includes several ‘Flip Dip’ products, a format where a topping is flipped into a main container. These are savoury dips like Red Pepper & Cream Cheese or Basil Dip with Pesto Drizzle; this fictional sweet spread would represent a new application of a format M&S already uses elsewhere in its stores.
