A High-Low Bakery Concept
Brand crossovers are now a permanent fixture of the UK snack landscape, but they tend to happen between brands of a similar market position. A new design concept bypasses that logic, pairing the premium M&S bakery aisle with one of the most recognisable children’s party biscuits on the market.
The mockup proposes a four-pack of M&S doughnuts flavoured to replicate Fox’s Party Rings. It’s an unusual pairing. M&S bakery products occupy a high-end, grown-up space in the supermarket, while Party Rings are a pocket-money staple, famous for their hard, crackable icing and simple biscuit base. They are not, by any metric, a luxury item. This concept bridges that gap, placing a nostalgic, low-cost biscuit at the heart of an in-store bakery format.
From Biscuit to Doughnut
The execution shown in the design is a direct visual translation. The classic Party Ring is a disc of hard, pastel-coloured icing on a crunchy biscuit base. The conceptual doughnut mimics this by topping a standard ring doughnut with a solid, flat disc of icing that looks just like the biscuit’s, complete with the familiar ridged pattern and stringy sprinkles.
It’s presented in the standard clear plastic clamshell used for M&S’s in-store bakery multipacks. The pack carries the branding of both M&S Food and Fox’s, with the caption, “Now THIS is a party,” leaning into the biscuit’s primary function as a fixture of birthdays and celebrations for the under-10s.
Frequently asked questions
- What are Fox’s Party Rings?
- Fox’s Party Rings are a popular British biscuit, particularly for children’s parties. They consist of a circular biscuit base topped with a disc of hard, brittle icing in pastel colours like pink, yellow, and purple.
- What flavour would these doughnuts be?
- The concept is based on the flavour profile of the biscuit, which is a simple sweet biscuit with a hard sugar icing. The flavour is more about the texture and distinct sweetness of that icing than a specific fruit or spice.
- Are M&S Party Rings Doughnuts real?
- No, this product does not exist. This is a Snackfish — a mockup created by the online design page UK Snack Attack. It is not a real M&S product and is not sold anywhere.
