Two Generations of Sweet
This concept combines two sweets from very different eras. The Sherbet Fountain, now part of the Barratt’s brand, is a confection with a history stretching back to 1925. For decades it was defined by its cardboard tube and liquorice stick, an iconic format that only changed in 2009 when the packaging switched to a resealable plastic tube.
Squashies are a much more recent invention. Launched by Swizzels in 2012, they reimagined the brand’s classic hard sweets like Drumsticks and Love Hearts as soft, foam-based gums. Their success created an entirely new platform for the company, which has since become a fixture in its own right. A Sherbet Fountain crossover is a logical, if ambitious, step. The mockup’s branding, ‘Real Mix Innovation Editions’, suggests a whole potential sub-range of classic sweet fusions.
The Current Squashies Line-Up
A Sherbet Fountain edition would be joining a surprisingly varied portfolio. The core Squashies range already plays with multiple flavour profiles, from the straightforward Original (based on Drumstick and Refreshers flavours) to the purely confectionary taste of Bubblegum. The brand has also branched into frozen dessert territory with its Ice Cream and Splits Lollies editions, which mimic the taste of vanilla soft-serve and classic fruit ice lollies respectively.
Other variants lean into simple fruit combinations, like Strawberry Cream and the sharp Sour Cherry Apple. A Fizzy Sherbet Fountain Mix wouldn’t be entirely out of place. The ‘fizzy’ component is already present in the sour coating of the Cherry Apple sweets, and bringing in another well-known brand under the Valeo Confectionery umbrella makes a degree of commercial sense. It would, however, be the first time a Squashies bag has directly named another sweet on its packaging.

The current Swizzels Squashies range includes Original, Bubblegum, Ice Cream, Splits Lollies, Strawberry Cream, and Sour Cherry Apple. This Fizzy Sherbet Fountain Mix concept would be the first to directly cross over with another named sweet from a different brand.
